PhD position in Real-time automated 3D visualisation of seismic data and optimisation of signal properties

Within the framework of Lebanon – UK collaboration, the LPA is committed to advance science in Lebanon through collaborative Research and Development projects. The aim is to produce highly skilled Lebanese nationals with strong competencies in different aspects of the oil and gas industry.

In this framework, the LPA and the University of Aberdeen work closely on building a capacity in the constituent Earth Science disciplines within Lebanon by delivering PhD researchers who will develop to become experts in their fields.

The LPA invites applications from highly qualified and motivated students wishing to pursue a PhD degree in geophysics and seismic visualisation, based at the University of Aberdeen. The successful applicant will play a key role in developing and integrating the automated data analysis and optimisation techniques, adapting the proposal to seismic dataset visualization in Opendtect and finally testing the methods across 3D/4D data. During the test activities, the researcher will strictly link with the Lebanon Petroleum Administration and Aberdeen University sedimentology and geophysics groups to incorporate the core, petrophysics and geological data into the workflow process.  The project will contribute to produce a better interactive and real time rendering geobody technology, linking quantitative methods of signal expression to the petrophysics well logs dataset.  As such it has a strong impact with all the various topics of exploration and application of visualization techniques into earth sciences.

 

Student profile:

  • A bachelor or masters degree in engineering, physics, mathematics, computer science, or earth science is required
  • strong computing background (familiar with c++/agile development),
  • Strong motivation in research aspects in geophysics
  • Good understanding of basic earth sciences principles
  • Must have completed his studies prior to the start of the project.
  • Hold a Lebanese passport
